Official Seal of Abulug |
Abulug
is a typical town and was originally named “Tulug”, which means to guide or to
accompany. Historically, Abulug was one of the major commercial centers between
Pamplona and
Ballesteros. Today, Abulug serves as the gateway for the towns of Sta. Marcela,
Pudtol, and Luna of the Province
of Apayao through the Junction Luna Highway
at Brgy. Libertad, the most promising commercial site strategically located
along Maharlika Highway .
A
fourth class municipality, Abulug has a population of 32,586 living in a land
area of 19,969 hectares. It has large farmland making agriculture as one of the
major economic activities. The climate is primarily influenced by its proximity
to the sea, but typically tropical in nature, characterized by the wet and dry
seasons. Rain is abundant. The soil is sandy loam, basically derived from the
silt deposits of rivers. This is suited for certain crops such as rice, since
the soil’s water retention properties are better than sandy soil and its slight
porousness means water is gradually absorbed at an acceptable rate, preventing
unnecessary water saturation in the fields. It has 6 rivers and small,
functional water-impounding systems in most of the barangays. The town has one
private tertiary school, making tertiary education accessible for those
far-flung barangays from nearby towns. Abulug has an aggregate income of 53.197
million.
