The community was first known as
Tabang and later on to Cabarungan. After several years, the town was later
called Sto. Niño and then Faire and again, Sto. Niño. For all those years that
the town experienced changing names, the economic as well the political
conditions did not aggressively improve. Due to its location as one of the
interior towns of Cagayan, the difficult transportation of local produce
hampered economic activities, thus leaving its 28,283 populace and their crops
like rice and corn at the mercy of distant markets. The vast land of 51,290
hectares is not fully utilized but has made the people experience intervening
problems caused by the unstable political conditions due to insurgency
problems.
Predominantly an agriculture area,
the town is struggling to take its part in the development activities of the
province as it continues to be one of the main contributors of producing tons
of palay being sold out to the rice traders in Lasam, the nearest town.
