Claveria, Cagayan

Claveria, Cagayan

The town owes its existence to the industrious and thrifty Ilocanos who first migrated to this place long before the Spanish came to discover the area. The legendary “Lakay-lakay”, considered by fishermen as the guardian of Claveria, has attracted foreign and local tourists besides the scenic beauty of the Claveria sea. One of the top tourist destinations in the region, Claveria has hotels, resorts, and convention centers that are affordable and functional. The town itself is accessible mostly through the national road, with public transportation regularly traveling to the area. Among the tourist spots are the Taggat Lagoon, the 18-meter high Portabaga Falls with three natural basins ideal for swimming and picnicking, and the Lakay-lakay rock formation which gave birth to the famous Beach Boulevard in the far north.
Claveria has a population of 29,277, with a land area of 19,400 hectares. It has a total of 41 barangays, with an estimated annual income of 62.501 million. A second class municipality, Claveria maintains cottage industries, food processing and crafts.
